i went for a messier approach on this one mostly because i don't have the patience to work neatly, but it was actually a pretty enjoyable (and fast!) way to color. this isn't really done, but i can feel my attention span nearing its end. that's also why there isn't really a bg.

i also totally knew in the back of my mind that the ANBU uniform is black and not blue, but i mixed it up with the jounin uniform while i was coloring and never bothered fixing it. doh.

This "messy" style works really well. You should do a few more things like this! :D

Nice, I like the colours and pose. Just starting to digitally paint myself I'm quite interested in painting in this quicker less blended style myself. Did you just use solid colours with hardly any blending? kind of similar to vectoring?

Yup, I just dabbed on solid colors without using blending or opacity. I haven't had much success in the past in CGing smoothly, so I tried to treat it like actual paint by laying down colors in small strokes and using a rougher brush tip (as opposed to the round/fuzzy ones).

This was awhile ago but I think I just laid down colors in two tones, then added a few inbetween colors to make a rough gradient. I also put in some slightly different colors (like the blue areas: some greener blues, some cooler blues, a few gray-blues). That way the shading gets a bit more complex and you're not just taking the same color and lighting/darkening it to make shadows and highlights.

I'm no expert at this but I hope that helped!

No that's very helpfull thanks. It's pretty much what I thought then, I was just interested in how to get such a smooth look with block colours but I guess that comes mainly from experience and practice :D.
